The last of the Mirror Northern series was held at Ripon Sailing Club on the 15th November. Sailors from Dee, Royal Windermere, Ullswater, Beaver and Ripon were confronted with challenging conditions, with little wind and fog on arrival.
The first race was postponed until 11:30 but got underway in the top half of the lake with Rachel Grayson (Reg) and Emma Rumgay taking the lead from the start followed by Henry and Jamie Rastrick with Robert Richardson and Emma Clayton not far behind. As the race continued Reg and the Rastricks pulled away from the rest of the fleet changing positions as the race conditions improved resulting in the Rastricks just pipping Reg and Emma on the finish line.
After a lovely lunch prepared by Ripon's galley the plan was to run two back to back races if the conditions held. The second race saw the Rastricks taking a commanding lead from the start followed by Reg and Emma and the rest of the fleet with Robert and Emma, Megan and Thomas and David and Rebecca fighting for third overall. As the race continued Megan pulled away to come third in race 2 followed by Robert and David.
Unfortunately the conditions deteriorated and the race officer abandoned the last race, which resulted in the Rastricks winning overall with Reg and Emma in 2nd and Robert and Emma in 3rd. By winning the Ripon open the Rastricks secured the Northern series followed by Sarah Richards and Robert Richardson.
