34526 - an unbuilt kit from the 70's

Wood kit manufactured by Bell Woodworking and not built. Only the oars were assembled.

This unstarted kit was advertised for sale for Sensible offers , details were:

An unusual opportunity to buy & build a classic Mirror, almost 50 years after the kit was bought,

The kit was unpacked and stored in several locations in a house in Stafford, losing a few of the small parts along the way (mostly fillets and the like, numbers on the 1970’s–era parts list (page 29, and onwards): 18, 19, 24, 26, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 44, 49, 52, 53, 54, 61, 67, 68, 74, 75, 78) but the significant panels, spars (Gunter rig), sails and fittings were all there when we did the audit in 2015. It is currently wrapped and packed up in my garage.

Editor's Note: To give you an idea what it's going to take to transport a kit, Bell Woodworking supplied kits as a consignment of three items:

  1. one fibreboard case 8' x 2' x 4" - 3/4cwt. (about 38Kg)
  2. one package 12' x 6" x 4" - 1/4 cwt (about 13Kg)
  3. one tin of resin 9" x 6" x 6" - 8lbs (about 4Kg)

The Mirror kit has gone to a new home on the Isle of Wight. The new owner plans to build it as a classic Mirror, which sounds an interesting project.
