On the 8th and 9th December the RYA National Junior Squad arrived fresh and ready for a good weekend of training at Poole. The 420s were there for their own training some of which were ex-mirror sailors and it was great for everyone to catch up including parents.
On Saturday we focused on improving our starts to make them perfect and practicing upwind tactics. The wind was around force 2 to 3 perfect for our training. We quickly learned how strong the tide could be on the start line and reminded us that we need to be working for our place on the line.
We had a great evening; Alex's birthday provided us with plenty of cake and brownies, We heard the good news of the safe arrival home of Gumble 2 and we hope she has settled in well, and also the surprise visit from Father Christmas who brought surprise presents for all of us. We would like to thank all of our parents and everyone involved for arranging this with a special thanks to santa whos name we now know is Alistair.
In the evening we all walked over to a swimming pool to train for our swimathon. It was tough but now we know what we are preparing for and who are the ones to beat...
On sunday we had an early start of 8:30, and we managed to be out on the water by 10! There was a good wind of averagely 10 knots which was perfect for our weekend focus; starting and upwind tacktics. After lunch we had two very close races, both with everyone having great starts. In the first race; 1st was Max & Finn, 2nd Midge & Harriet, and 3rd Jo & Imogen. And in the 2nd race; 1st was Jo & Imogen, 2nd Midge & Harriet, and 3rd Katie & Gemma.
Thank you Catherine and Alex for being amazing and sorry for being quite talkative. MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!!
