Well, what a fantastic weekend we had at Blithfield! The winds weren’t quite as strong as the winds that we endured at South Staffs but the conditions were still challenging. Also we had 2 new squad members, Amy and Hettie Stevens. Amy and Hettie had already been through the Zone Squad but they just missed out on getting into the National Squad this year. With Adam on the other side of the world in Australia, Beth Grey joined us in his place. She was a great help sharing her knowledge of crewing mirrors. This tied in with the aim of the weekend, improving our spinnaker work.
On the Saturday the wind was blowing at about 15mph which was quite testing but it dropped off in the afternoon providing perfect sailing conditions. However on the Sunday the wind was blowing at about 20mph and the squad coped brilliantly! Apart from a few capsizes here and there and one broken boat, the weekend was successful. We concluded the weekend with a few races. Edward and Matthew won both followed by myself and Evie. In the first race, third place went to Scott and Daniel and in the second race, Amy and Hettie came third.
On the Saturday evening the squad (including Dave this time) met up at a local pub for an evening meal. It was great because the kids and the adults could discuss the day and chill out so that we were ready for our exercises the following morning!
We hope to see you all at Beaver on the 23/24 January all raring to go for a good weekend!
