the picture has to be held on the remote server. At the mo, only me, scotty and dad can put stuff onto the remote server, and then link to it in messages.

Best course of action is to email the pictures to dad, and tell him which message to put them in.

This actually second on the lists of site upgrades, after programming netscape compatability into the dropdown menu system.

This is how it's going to work:

it's possible to create a subdomain, http://upload.ukmirrorsailing.com , which has write-only permissions for anonymous users (that's basically everyone to the server!) where people cane place photos or articles that they'd like to see posted on the site.

http://gallery.ukmirrorsailing.com will then hold the photo acrchives of all mirror events we've covered, or that members have given us information on. the tricky bit is to construct a page (probably gong to be in asp) that opens and scans the uploaded pictures pixel by pixel, runs them through a cropping algorithm to reduce them to a pre-determined thumbnail size, and then creates a page containing all the other thumbnails for that event. clicking on the thumbnail will open an enlarged image for more detailed viewing. by imposing restrictions on the subdomain, it should be possible to prevent unauthorised downloading of our photos for professional use(ahem, steve long :-) ) or perhaps paste a logo over the top; the web team will decide on an appropriate policy (probably free photos for all).

So there's no forgetting those embarrasing moments caught on camera now!
