NEW MAINSHEET RULES. was created by ASW
Only just had time to look at the new rules regarding mainsheet systems - too many boat repairs!

As i read them there is no provision to use a mainsheet from a fixed bridle directly to the cockpit (via boom blocks obviously) without using a 2:1 purchase at the outboard end.
For those familiar with modern Fireballs, i wanted to fit the same system.

Cannot find a rule reference to the mounting of the ratchet in the cockpit either. Is that to be treated as a fitting ie not part of the hull construction or can an extension be made to the rear of the thwart in this area to accomodate the ratchet - like the prototype Winder?

Cheers,
Andy

Got the answers from Martin Egan (who else!)

2:1 only.
The take-off pad can be a retro fit item or be built into the thwart.

A mainsheet cleat is also allowed ie a swivel jammer.

Thanks for clarifying these points Martin.

Does that mean that a cleat for transom mains will be allowed in the future??

I would assume so Emma - over to you Martin.
I must admit i was surprised that a main jammer was allowed - but Martin says he has one on his boat.

Hi Trevor,

No photos but i clearly remember your carbon bracket - very nice.

I wanted to build into the thwart with timber - which is obviously modifying the original components and therefore does not come under fittings and is part of hull construction. As i could not find a rule covering this mod i thought i would check it would be in class. Luckily it is and the router has already been at work!

Whilst your here - can we leave the boat at the Club (Brightlingsea) on the Friday night as we`re at a B&B till the accomodation starts on Saturday.
Cheers,
Andy

Hi Andy

Of course you can, I think you'll be in good company. We'll be occupying our berth for the first time this year and finding a home for the old boat as well.

Mine main sheet mounting would have been wood, I didn't get to see the rules so couldn't build it in, more by luck than judgement it was legal! Looking forward to seeing the work of art!

My understanding is that the jammer is legal, Alex opted not as he said 'it'll make me lazy' so he got a ratchet block only.

Hope you are well.

Trevor
