Visitors from Seasalter, Oxford, Stokes Bay, Sutton Bingham, Lymington Town, Spinnaker and Lilliput Sailing Clubs joined with the keener members of the host club to create a fleet of 23 for Poole's Mirror Open Meeting.
For the first race just on high water saw Gordon Foley in ‘Minnie Mouse’ leading at the windward mark with ‘Hot Pot Too', 'Apple Pie', 'Tom Thumb' and ‘Aquaforus Too,’ in close contention.
On Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th August the Spinnaker Club held their two day Mirror open meeting at Blashford Lake, Ringwood.
The event on Saturday comprised of three team races with two teams from the home club taking part and two from visiting clubs. Light and variable winds made racing somewhat difficult but a pattern soon emerged with each team finishing in identical positions in all three races.
Leigh-on-Sea Sailing Club held their Mirror Open Meeting on 7th/8th August and attracted 20 entries. A good easterly breeze, Force 3 on Saturday, freshening to 5 on Sunday, gave the fleet some good sailing.
The Metropolitan Police Sailing Club held its first ever Mirror Open on Saturday, 17th July, 1976, at the I.P.C. (Iver) Yacht Club.
The meeting was bedevilled by a complete lack of wind, with only the occasional zephyr, and consequently a lower number of entries than anticipated. Nevertheless, there were 15 entries from the four clubs: I.P.C. (Iver) Yacht Club, King George's Sailing Club, Queen Mary Sailing Club and Metropolitan Police Sailing Club.

There they go, smoothly and silently over sparkling waters, at the start of a memorably happy day. They are Mirror Class Sailing Dinghies and they are pictured above during a fun-packed and thrilling Mirror Dinghy Day held at Hastings, Sussex, at the weekend. Perfect weather made the day ideal for the seventy competitors and the spectators.
