Warsash SC Mirrors at Burseldon Regatta 2011 - photos by the Bellfield family

Which is the premier regatta on the River Hamble? Not the Warsash Sring Series, or the Hamble Winter Series - it is clearly the Burseldon Regatta held this year over the weekend of 3 / 4 September. It is probably the most challenging sailing to be found on the river - particularly when you find yourself hemmed in between trots of very expensive yachts and the mudbanks.

This year 8 Mirrors from Warsash SC ventured forth upriver and were part of a record 98 boat entry for the dinghy races. Light winds and a strong flood tide challenged everyone, including Kevin Sproul (master big boat helm/tactician/J80 champ and crew for his daughter Elie). The Mirror yet again demonstrated it's flexibility with singlehanded and parents/child combinations, but the juniors predominated, with some of the teams only in their first season of Mirror sailing. The race was won by Eleanor & Imogen Bellfield, from Jake Bonsor and Elie Sproul & Kevin Sproul.
