!!!! new PY for the mirror??!!!!

Hi,

I was just wondering as there have been many changes to the mirror, what is the new PY number for handicapped racing???

It is unlikely the Mirror PY will be changed in the near future.

The handicap issued by the RYA is based on historic data submitted by clubs. The results for all Mirrors (double handed with spinnaker) are all treated together, ie NO consideration to type of rig, construction and age of boat etc.

This in effect gives an average across all types of Mirror.

It should be remembered that the PY is only a guideline, clubs can choose to use their own handicap, giving scope to having a different handicap for older boats

SailRacer is working with the RYA to allow clubs to easily submit their results and for the system to calculate handicaps specific to each club

We are already seeing clubs using different handicaps for varients of boats such as the Vago

Simon: Can you kindly tell me if SailRacer has a module (or the capability) to allow Clubs to convert Boat/Fleet Handicaps(FH)into Personal Handicaps(PH). This to reflect a helm's competence level within Class racing or Fleet Handicap racing? Could such a PH be automatically updated by the program dependent on the helms ongoing performance over the racing season? Thanks,

The current SailRacer RYA PY system allows additional boat configurations to be created at club level and the system to calculate the new handicaps for these based on the historic results

A good example is Merlin Rockets, where some clubs have submitted both Merlin and Merlin Classic results, giving a seperate handicap for the older boats

This same principle could be applied to sailors
