Mainsheets

Just picked up the new Selden test rig complete with GNAV, as this photo shows it really frees up cockpit space, making it a real option for an adult to crew and teach a child to helm, without getting pinned by the kicker. Hope to fit a centre main to this boat shortly

When trying centremain option, Laser style on the thwart, I recommend the block be attached.just aft of thwart.This means the crew has the current room to slide their bums across without the mainsheet catching their backs. See the pics of Littlewind on this site.
To make this work ,I had a piece of stainless steal made up .which is bolted onto the underside of the thwart,using existing boltholes.
The plate protruded aft about 4 inches onto which the block was bolted
[actually I had a normal mainsheet block and jammer] It all looked very neat and I'm confident it will be strong enough.

I was wondering if, because the centre main will have a cleat, will transom main boats also be allowed to cleat the main in some way?

The issue of allowing cleats is part of the centre main discussion, but it is not a given that they will be in the proposed rules. There are pros and cons over including cleats, what do people think ???

I would be against the cleat on the following basis:

1. The safety issues around in experienced helms cleating the main in strong wind and whilst tacking thus causing more capsizes & out of control moments
2. The current boat rewards the helm who concentrates on keeping the main in the correct position, allowing a cleat will change the sailing characteristics of the boat.
3. It will add significantly to the cost. A Harken centre jammer is approx £100.

Cleats are too much of a temptation! If I have one I can't resist using it, meaning I end up sailing like the poop

i think it is a brill idea i can see both sides but me and my crew way only 9 stone together and weere quite small i think it will be very useful

What would be useful? The centre main or the cleat? I think if you are only 9 stone you would be better without the cleat so you can play the main more and you are less likely to capsize.
