Spinnaker stowage

I understand that the cubby holes were in part used to store such things as spinnakers. As it stand they don't lend themselves to being much use other than storing a potentially wet lunch. I know\believe the rules exclude cutting holes in the foredeck, but this would enable the use of bags. Just means the crew would need to stow (and launch if on the windward side) rather than the helm. It would also reduce weight near the bow and reduce the cost as we wouldn't need a spinnaker schute or sock. Any thoughts?

Nice idea, if it`s taken this long to get to a bermudan rig and alloy boom I can`t see that getting through - gets my vote though.

Tried that one several times, and it never really works as well as stowing from the top! Also having large holes in the top helps with the inevitable varnishing as access is much improved.

I agree the sock weighs nothing, but you have to add the weight of the wooden schute and the weight of the water in the wet spinny on the foredeck, where you want least weight. Also you can take out two large lumps of ply. All helps to keep the weight of the boat down. Also a spinnaker without a downhaul patch always seems to stay in better shape than one pulled down by a downhaul in light airs.
