Lulham-Robinsons win at Annandale

The Mirror Class Association visited Annandale Sailing Club 12th and 13th June 2010.  This was the first Nationwide Series event north of the Scottish Boarder for quite a few years.  The event was supported by visiters from as far north as the Sheltand Isles – who sent two boats- and a contingent from Yorkshire.

Conditions on Saturday were glorious sunshine with a shifty NW force 2 drifting across Castle Loch.

Race1

Local sailor John Hugo picking the left hand side of the course rounded the first mark, followed by Ollie White and William Hide.  Ollie took the lead on the 3rd downwind leg and led until the last beat where he was just overhauled by the Lulham-Robinson’s.  Mark Hide from Ripon SC finished 3rd

Race2

The Grayson girls Emma and Rachel rounded the first mark in the lead, Ollie White 2nd and Lulham-Robinsons 3rd.  Final placings were Lulham-Robinson’s, Ollie White and the Grayson girls.

Race 3

After an initial tussle by a leading group of boats the Grayson girls, went up the left hand side of the 2 beat of the course and established a commanding lead on this race.  Mark Hide improved to 2nd with Ollie White and Will Hide 3rd.

Sunday was a very different day.  Light southerly breeze, persistent rain and large amounts of the famous Scotch Mist greeted competitors.

Race 4

Race Officer Duncan Greenhaulgh had his work cut out setting a course and the fleet got off after a short postponement to the lightest race of the weekend.   Lulham-Robinson boys took this one from John Hugo 2nd and Emma and Rachel Grayson 3rd.

Race 5

Junior National Champion Peter Sedgewick flew out of  the stocks this time to win this race from start to finish.  The Lulham-Robinsons grappled their way up the fleet to squeeze a second and local pundit John Hugo continued a consitant run by claiming 3rd.

Race 6

Lulham-Robinsons took the final race.  Peter Sedgewick was second and Mark Hide 3

All competitors would like to thank Annandale SC for the fantastic support and welcome and hospitality we were given during the event.  It is also great to see the Shetlanders attending events on the mainland which represents a serious commitment and effort on behalf of their helpers and supporter from Shetland Sailing Centre.
