Super September - The Month for Mirrors

As many classes prepare for the end of the sailing season hardy Mirror sailors look forward to a very exciting September.  This is the month when our boats are really put to the test as the winds pick up and the waves smack against hulls.  Traditionally we experience some wonderful weather during the month and this leads to outstanding sailing and racing. September is a vital month as competitions and selections come to a head.  We hope that as many as possible will take part and that we will see as many boats as possible on the water, with smiling faces and happy crews enjoying the many opportunities for sailing.

The first weekend in September, 4/5, sees a north-east traveller taking place at Ripon.  This is part of a series at all are welcome on a one-off basis to what has become traditionally a great competition. Ripon is a wonderful club to visit and you are sure of a warm welcome.

At the same time down on the south coast at Itchenor There is a two-day open meeting, which doubles as a South Zone Squad Qualifier.  This is an opportunity for young sailors to gain selection for the South Zone Squad.

It is intended that over the autumn and winter the RYA and UK Mirror Class Association will run both North and South Zone Squads and a National Junior Squad.   Squad membership is a real opportunity for massive development of sailing skills, and to build up the highly enjoyable social aspect of sailing.  Young people made tremendous progress and develop their boat handling and racing skills under the tutelage of expert coaches.  Those who have been through the squads gaining confidence and ability, and benefit from the outstanding support of top-quality facilities, resources and expertise.  If you have the opportunity to join a squad, it will enhance your sailing more rapidly than almost anything else.  September is the time to take part in indicator events and planned to take your sailing to a new level.

The second weekend of September, 11/12, sees another north-east traveller, this time at Derwent Sailing Club - a great venue what should be another exciting event.

At the same time there is to be an Open Meeting to Shustoke Sailing Club.  With so many great events all around the country there is no excuse for letting Your boat get barnacles -come out and join in.

The weekend of 18/19 sees Hollingworth Sailing Club hosting what we hope will be a massive event.  The weekend racing is a North-east Traveller, a National Squad indicator, a North Zone Squad indicator, and the final event in the 2010 Nationwide Series.  It promises to be a massive weekend with so many opportunities, but you have to be there to benefit from those opportunities !

The final weekend of September, 25/26, sees the South Zone Championships taking place at Weymouth.  This is also a South Zone Squad indicator.  Competition is always close and exciting, so do take part.

Let's make September 2010 a real scorcher with Mirrors ruling the waves.

Details of all competitions can be found in our events menu.
