BRIGHTLINGSEA  29th - 31st May 2010

Dear Competitor,

On behalf of Brightlingsea Sailing Club we would like to welcome you to Brightlingsea and to the 2010 Mirror National Championships.  The aim of this letter is to give you all as much information prior to arriving as possible.  Enclosed you will find details of where to park, register and a copy of the Sailing Instructions.  Please read this information carefully and follow the directions and timings.  This will ensure that the event runs smoothly....

Those of you who are familiar with Brightlingsea will be aware that the access for cars along Oyster Tank Road is limited and hence to minimise the risk of accidents we will operate a strict traffic plan.  Upon arrival you will be asked to unhitch your boat, cars will be directed into a ‘Pay & Display’ park and competitors will be asked to pull the boats a short distance to the ‘Dinghy Park’.  Boats only will be allowed into the dinghy park, trailers will be secured in a secondary dinghy park.  Car parking is in short supply so those staying at the adjacent Lakeside camp site are asked to leave their cars within the camp site if possible.

The main registration race office will be situated within the clubhouse.  Upon arrival please proceed to the registration desk to receive an information pack.  You will receive trolley tags which should be immediately fixed to your trolley for identification purposes.  This will be your trolley tally and lottery number for the weekend so please remember it.

Please note we are running the races back to back and there will NOT be an opportunity for competitors to come ashore during the day.  Please make sure that the boats leave the beach with sufficient food and drink on board for the day afloat. The Brightlingsea Sailing Club Galley will be open from 8.00 am for breakfast.  The bar will be open from 12 noon each day where teas/coffees and light snacks and drinks can be purchased.  After the racing there will be food for the competitors as outlined in the itinerary.  For others food is also available however tickets must be purchased from the race office in advance to allow the galley to know the exact number they are catering for.

Changing facilities and showers are available within the clubhouse although these are limited in size.   Please DO NOT leave valuables in the changing rooms, as the clubhouse will not be locked during the day.

The schedule of racing is provided in the Official notice of Race and will be confirmed within the Sailing Instructions – both of which are posted on We hope to complete 9 races over 3 days.  Racing is programmed to start at 13.00 on Saturday and 11.00 on the other days.  All timings and racing schedules are subject to review dependant upon the weather conditions, although the start of the 1st day’s racing will not come forward.

The racing will take place outside of Brightlingsea Creek  within the River Colne and you will not be able to follow the racing from the sailing club.  However, we will endeavour to keep the racing as close to shore as practical and a short ferry trip will take you to Point Clear from where you can see the racing area.  Spectator boats / ribs may be available dependant upon weather conditions, please ask at the race box.

On behalf of the whole event team we wish you an enjoyable stay with us at Brightlingsea and sincerely hope that you all thoroughly enjoy the Mirror National Championships 2010.
