There may have only been seven boats competing but the battle to take overall honours was something else!  The four races with one discard were held over the first two days of the Bassenthwaite Regatta week and conditions were good with a constant force 3 to 4 blowing.

The Dumfries brothers Sandy and Douglas Simpson who are based at Ullswater YC opened their account with a win in race 1 but were beaten in race 2 by Andy Smith and daughter Lily from the home club so they tied on points overnight.  Mother and young son Stacey and Charlie Rowell recorded two thirds and Ian Preston, whose young crew had deserted him, two fourths.

Day two was much of the same with the Simpsons winning race 3 from the Smiths.  So, with the former crew only one point ahead it was all to play for.  In a tense final race positions changed several times but, after an hour’s racing, the Simpsons finished 5 seconds ahead and took the Series with three wins.

The Rowells and Preston took a third each to finish third and fourth overall.  Fourth places on the final day went to Fiona and George Spence of Ripon SC and to Jonathan and Henry Bullen of Blackpool and Fleetwood SC.
