2004 Restronguet Open & SW Traveller

Only 7 Mirrors had recovered sufficiently from the Nationals and/or done sufficient coursework/homework (Paddy !) to contest Restronguet SCs Mirror open which was sailed in a south easterly 2-3 with sunny intervals and a strong ebb tide.

In race 1 Josh Pritchard & Beth White in “Crubbet” led at first but were overhauled by Liam Arrowsmith & Natalie Roach in “Eat my shorts” who sailed into a big lead with Lotte & Sophie Brett in “Conker” 2nd and James Wilkinson & Martin Egan in “Bold Forester” 3rd. Despite what coaches Bob Warren & Darren Roach had said at the Open Coaching session, lots of boats failed to judge the starboard lay line correctly and ended up overstanding the top mark. They then had to reach down to it against the tide, losing ground to those who avoided the lay line until the last possible moment.

In Race 2 Will Field & Josh Barrow in “Crianza” made a good start but once again it was Liam and Natalie who sailed into a big lead with Paddy Adams and Andy Rose in “Panique Les Poisson” 2nd closely followed by Lottie & Sophie. At the finish Lottie & Sophie failed to spot the line bias and allowed James & Martin to take 3rd place.

Race 3 started with James & Martin over the line (transit !). Liam & Natalie sailed into another big lead to win. Paddy and Andy were 2nd and held off Lottie & Sophie who finished 3rd.
