On Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th August the Spinnaker Club held their two day Mirror open meeting at Blashford Lake, Ringwood.
The event on Saturday comprised of three team races with two teams from the home club taking part and two from visiting clubs. Light and variable winds made racing somewhat difficult but a pattern soon emerged with each team finishing in identical positions in all three races.
The winning team came from Marchwood Sailing Club and consisted of S. Mechan, A. Maskell and T. Platt. Second came one of the Spinnaker teams
—J. Cooke, G. Russell and C. Law.
The Sunday open meeting attracted 24 boats including several visitors from Poole, Lymington, Marchwood, Sutton Bingham and other clubs. A strong breeze encouraged keen racing although at times the wind died away almost completely, leaving boats virtually becalmed.
The visitors soon began to dominate the racing with M. White in 'Hot Pot Too' winning the first and third races. Roger Pedley sailing 'Neutrino', T. Fish in 'Minnow' and Spinnaker club’s Chris Bennell sailing 'Little Gem' also proved consistent being in the first three in at least two races.
M. White however gained two first places to become the overall winner of the Roy Baker Trophy.
