Mirror crews who attended the highly successful Winsford Flash SC annual Mirror Open Meeting on Sunday 19th June were blessed with almost perfect sailing conditions - a force 3/4 north westerly blowing the length of the lake combined with brilliant sunshine. The high class field which included five UK World Team qualifiers made for some interesting racing.
In RACE ONE Alan Bennett, Mike Bloor, Matt Shires and Robert Forbes all made promising starts but at the windward mark current European Champion Ben Dutton had a slight lead over Matt Shires, Mike Bloor and Alan Bennett. Ben extended his lead to finish first, Mike Bloor was second with Roy Platford pipping Alan Bennett to finish third.
Platford led at the windward mark in RACE TWO but lost touch with the leaders after rounding the wrong way and conceding a 720 in the chaos that ensued. Dutton again took the the lead closely followed by Bloor, Shires and Tim Gray. At the finish it was Dutton first, Bloor second and Matt. Shires, after a long tussle with Bennett and Gray, third.
An on-form Bennett led from start to finish in RACE THREE. Bloor was again second with Gray finally getting away from Bennett and Platford to finish third.
