The second sesion of the south west training squad saw sailors from Looe, Mounts Bay, Penzance and Restronguet, gather at Restronguet, Falmouth. We sailed in a light breeze, the total opposite of the first session which involved several capsizes and lots of swimming.
The morning started with a briefing by the coaches Alex Hayman and Tom Cosier on sail trim for different points of sailing and weather conditions.
Then the 7 boats (up on the 4 boats of the 2011 SW training) hit the water to practice our starts which improved through out the day much to the relief of the RIB crew. After lunch, we finished off with four races which consists of a triangle and a sausage, so we could practice what we had learned.
On-shore, the real competition and excitement centred around the cake tin, with Bake-Off quality cakes coming from the Rudds (Looe SC). Will we see a winning fruit cake from Egan?
Overall, a great success as we learned loads and look forward to this weeks session 3!!!
