The Nationwide series was started in 2005. The aim was to provide an incentive for the best sailors to compete nationwide whilst allowing club and novice sailors opportunities to experience top class racing close to home. A number of events around the country are designated as being part of the Nationwide Series. A boats position at that event is then used to as her score counting towards the series. Boats are not expected to compete at every event, so only a specified number of events are counted in the series score.
