Mirror dinghy approaching windward mark and pareparing to hoist the spinnaker

25 mirrors  came together for a very enjoyable yet wet weekend at Poole Yacht Club. It was the 2nd Crewsaver Nationwide Series for the Mirror Class and Poole  were delighted to welcome many visiting sailors.

The competition consisted only of 3 races due to unfortunately inclement conditions on the Sunday. A big well done to everyone who competed! The wind was a steady 13 knots with some fairly big gusts! For the 3rd race the wind picked up to around  17 knots causing a few hairy moments for some boats!

Nigel Thomas with local crew Benedict Williams won the first race but the two lead boats after the first three legs soon realised that going to the wrong windward mark was not a fast way to race... Sarah and Midge  just remember it was an OUTER loop Trapezoid Course!
Sarah and George Richards went on to dominate the next two races with some excellent racing in the following fleet competing for the top five spots.

Sunday morning and the abandonment flag soon went up; boats were packed away in the pouring rain whilst the junior sailors took refuge in the clubhouse before the prizegiving. The top 5 results were

  1. Sarah and George Richards
  2. Milly and Nick Pugh,
  3. Rosie and Helena Watkins,
  4. Midge and Harriet Watkins,
  5. Rory Odell and Lewis Bowen

All competitors would like to thank Poole Yacht Club, Race Officer Andy Macgregor and his team on the committee boat and all safety crew for an excellent days racing.

Thanks to Mike Millard for the great photos.
