On 5th March the second round of the Maiden Marine Royal Windermere YC winter series took place. It was quite light winds and unfortunately only five boats turned up as the event clashed with the Dinghy Show but the day was poised for an exciting regatta!
The first race started at approximately 11am and the five boats set off up to the windward mark. The wind filled in from the left and Will Hide and Emma Clayton got there first, next Matt and Ben Lulham-Robinson and then Ellie Hide and Sophie Benn.
Hi Guys, well are we all ready for the next instalment of the Beaver Winter series.
The sun is going to shine and the winds are going to be good for all abilities.
So Beaver members if you missed the first date come and have a weekend of
Mirror sailing to kick off the 2011 season!!!!
Report by ELLIE HIDE
After the carnage that was West Lancs, we started the weekend at Beaver by finding out that the girls changing rooms were being redone and so we had to get changed in the ROD box at the top of a steep ladder which was a new experience! And also with a quick reminder of rules, to prevent a repeat of the previous weekend, which had ended up costing a few parents due to repairs. Oops. We were gratefully joined by team Grayson who it had to be said were ever so good! Saturday morning was light about 6mph but we got straight on with our weekends objective, upwind strategy, by doing various exercises such as buddy beats, twin windward marks and aiming for 9.1 to help us think about favoured sides of the beat , boat on boat tactics and quickest route to the windward mark taking into account the shifts. We ended the day with taking and gibing on the whistle and the key word ‘smooth’ deeply imbedded into our minds.

1. When did you get involved with Mirrors and why did you choose the
Mirror as a boat to sail?
Six years ago we started our sailing adventure and I purchased a Mirror
dinghy fully rigged, with road trailer and trolley for £250:00!!!!!!!!!!!!! I
saw the Mirror as a true family boat whereby any combination of the
family members could go for a sail, even me and the wife!
