A combined fleet of 26 boats contested the 2011 Crewsaver UK Mirror Inlands hosted by Northampton SC over the weekend of 16th / 17th July, where conditions varied from blustery and wet, to almost balmy and light.
The event took place at Itchenor Sailing Club over the weekend 2nd/3rd July. Jonathan Davies, the Mirror Class Captain, and his team made everyone welcome on a gloriously sunny day with light winds. Over a third of the competitors were local with many juniors participating.
The first race saw the tide still coming in which made it tricky getting out to the start line and then a challenge not to be swept too far behind the start line. Kim May-Papailiou and Amy Sparks got to the windward mark 1st and held their lead throughout the race. The tide changed direction towards the end of the first race which called for some new tactics. 2nd place was taken by Rosie and Madeleine Watkins. 3rd was awarded to Nigel Thomas and 6yr old Helena Watkins.

The Crewsaver Mirror Nationwide Trophy 2011 kicked off its season in Scotland at Annandale SC. On Sat 9th and Sun 10th April. There was a good showing of Scottish boats with 9 from the local club and one other, that turned out to challenge the visitors from as far away as Poole Yacht Club. This was also a coached Open supported by RYA Scotland. This meant that the second 50% of the fleet were given guidance and support both on and off the water to help them improve their racing skills.

Annandale Sailing Club is situated on the historic Castle Loch in Lochmaben with its links to Bruce and the Wars of Independence. It may only be 150 acres but it can provide an interesting test for those who appreciate the subtleties of inland racing. In either case, it's a most beautiful place to be at any time of the year.
