There were deceptively sunny conditions in the boat park on day five of the Navigators & General Mirror European championships at Brixham Yacht Club. On arriving at the racecourse the competitors were greeted by black rain clouds and the first precipitation of the week!
A number of big shifts under the clouds resulted in the first 2 starts being postponed within the final minute. The fleet were too keen in start 3 with a general recall, so it was in the fourth start, under a black flag, that the fleet finally got away for the first race of the day.
"Windy, tiring, 4 whole races and I still have salt in my eyelashes" said Scarlett Shepherd after Day 4 of the Navigators & General Mirror Europeans at Brixham YC.
A very different day presented itself to the Mirror Europeans fleet at Brixham this morning. A building forecast, reaching 23 knots by the end of the day, allowed 4 races to be run.
“As inconsistent as the England Cricket Team” was how today’s weather was described by competitors Tom Weston and Paddy Jefferies.
Day three of the Navigators & General Mirror Europeans offered a change in conditions from the previous racing held from Brixham Yacht Club. The forecast light winds presented difficult conditions for the sailors and race committee alike. The Race Officer wisely put in place a 2 hour postponement whilst the sub 5 knot early wind built to a 6 knot north westerly.
Torbay delivered another challenging day today, the second day of the Navigators & General Mirror European Championships. Brixham Yacht Club’s race committee dealt with the conditions well to complete three good races in the shifty north-westerly wind.
