Over 40 Mirrors took part in the four event series at Poole YC, Hill Head SC, Bosham SC; concluding this weekend with the Navigators & General Mirror Nationwide Southern Championships at Itchenor SC. The boats from the RYA National Junior Squad have used the opportunity of the southern traveller series to gain experience in different waters from the shifty and tidal waters of Poole Harbour and unusually light conditions at Hill Head on the Solent and in Chichester at Bosham. To round off Itchenor had the full range of 20 kts plus on Day One, followed by light winds and tide dominated courses on Day Two.
The Bosham Open was won by Tom Weston & Paddy Jeffries, second Gemma Keers & Imogen Bellfield and third Ed Hansell & Bryony Jones. 14 Mirrors took part from Bosham, Itchenor and Wembly SC. Close racing in light winds and strong tides - hunting pressure was the key to success!
Southern Travellers event - Hill Head is a fantastic open water venue on the Solent - a great opportunity to race with classic Cowes and 'big boats' as the backdrop. Watch the racing from the club balcony, wifi available - 3 races, first warning signal at 13:25. Enter on the day. More details available from
Thank you to the visitors who came to Poole YC for the first of the South Mirror travellers and showed our local boats how to do it! Fantastic weather over the two days and although light and variable winds Colin, the RO, did well to get four races in on Saturday with a little more breeze for the final two on Sunday morning.
The Notice of Race for the Poole YC Mirror Open & first of the Southern Travellers 2014 Series to be held on 17th & 18th May has now been published and can be downloaded via the link.
