Ben & Keira win the 2023 National Championships at Brightlingsea Sailing Club

48 boats including the reigning National Champions, Ben & Keira McGrane, ex-World champion Chris Balding, two time GBR Olympic sailor Chris Grube plus a host of other top sailors, gathered at Brightlingsea SC for the UK Mirror Nationals from 1st to 4th June. To add a little International flavour, there were two boats from Ireland, warming up against GBR sailors prior to the Mirror World Championships in Sligo in July.

Great racing in the sheltered, if tidal, waters of the Colne Estuary. Cracking weather, a campervan site right next to the dinghy park, a bar and a galley providing breakfasts, packed lunches and an evening meal kept everyone fuelled up. Great organisation from Marie & Stephen Cross, Carole Heppell and the Brightlingsea SC crew.

Nationals - before you race.......

Just a reminder to those attending the Nationals

• In order to comply with Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) rule 78.1, you have to have a measurement certificate for the boat with the correct owner's details on it (except Bronze & Regatta fleet).
• Both helm & crew need to be a member of the UK Class Association
• You need to have sails that carry a certification mark (except Bronze & Regatta fleet)
• The boat's buoyancy needs to have been tested or inspected within the last 12 months (except Bronze & Regatta fleet). Steve Bland has kindly agreed to help me with buoyancy tests for the untested again this year, but it would be helpful if you came with it already done, or at least checked that it will pass (no leaks, no missing 'O' rings,......etc.)

2023 Mirror Worlds - 'Early Bird' entry closing soon

the 'early bird' entry for the 2023 Mirror Worlds in Sligo closes soon, entry is on the event website here http://2023worlds.mirrorsailing.org/entry/. As well as getting the lower entry price, all 'early bird' entries will be entered into a free draw to win a new Hyde Sails spinnaker. You must be entered by midnight on the 12th May 2023 to qualify.
