james said you needed a new alloy mast, but this isn't such a big issue unless your mast is rotten or something, lots of the really old boats have wooden masts.i would concetrate on getting new ropes first as if they are broken or worn they can damage the rest of your boat.

and james ask chris matthews about the rig tension thing

by the way i've just thought you said where you sail wasn't very good for mirror racing.to gain more experience you should get a trailer and find out about the traverllers series in your area. on the home page of this site there will be a link to your area's traverller series.

<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>Unfortunately there aren`t many mirror sailors at the club and only leasure sailors, so if i want to turn it into a racer i havent much help!!
I`m in the North West, Bury Manchester. Anyone about that area that would come take a look and give me a few pointers <hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" size=2 id=quote>

Chris you are near one of the centres of Mirror sailing in the NW at Hollingworth Lake Littleborough, just down the road from you in Bury.
Its the home of many a famous and infamous Mirror sailor, and they're really friendly too.

Go along there on a Sunday and you can expect to find Mirrors racing.

REALLY! yes i know Hollingworth lake very well. I was a memeber of the Res up the road with my windsurf a few years back, but it got too low!

With regards to a trailer, i have one!

I will go up there on Sunday. Is anyone going to be there this Sunday, if you are look out for me, since i`m shy to approach! lol, got plenty of questions when we get chatting!!!

With regards to racing: yes i want to get the boat in top nick ready for racing, but i`ve been sailing 2 weeks so need lots of practice first! Without having a big head, with already windsurfing i`m not too bad, was out in top Force 6 this morning at Clowbridge, i just need practice and to get my boat in shape!

.....need a friendly sailing club near Bury? Try Jumbles SC a few miles north and check out the website on www.jumblessailingclub.fsnet.co.uk . There are at least 7 mirrors, more than four sailing regularly and winning on handicap and many members share their experiences with mirrors and their toolbags! Our novice open class series of 8 races over last summer was won by a mirror! Cracking club house and atmosphere and plenty of parking and boat storage. Hope to see you.
