1964 - 1965
Stewart Luscott-Evans starts the story: My late father, Maurice Luscott-Evans , made this Mirror from a kit in our garage in Birmingham in 1964-65, while my mother was expecting me. He named it ‘oomiback’ because of the back pain he endured making the kit.
1966 - 1990
He always told me that it was the first (or maybe in reality one of the first?) Mirrors on the water at Salcombe, which is where we mostly sailed it. He knew quite a few of the locals, including the lifeboat crew - he told me they remarked what a funny-looking boat it was, and that it would never catch on!
I was only born in 1965 but sailed with him there as a young boy and in later years at various reservoir locations in the Midlands and in the Lake District. Coincidentally I went on to work for the Salcombe Harbour Master for two summers in 1985 & 1986 during my university summer holidays.
Unfortunately, he sold it to a buyer unknown probably in the very early 90s when he was living in Kidderminster. Although still in good condition, it had been unused for a few years as he endured some health issues, and I had moved overseas.

Stewart Luscott-Evans would love to know if it still exists. It doesn’t appear on the roll call on the Mirror Discussion Forum site.
